This week, we got another glimpse of their relationship when Holland casually called Zendaya by a different name during the film’s Rome premiere.
While speaking to reporters on the red carpet on June 23, Holland appeared to ask a question to his wife, who was conducting an interview a short distance away. Instead of using “Zendaya” or her nickname “Z,” which she had previously referred to publicly, Holland addressed her as “Marie!”
Zendaya immediately responded, “Yeah?”
“What’s the name of that place?” Holland asked, referring to the place the two planned to visit after the event.
“It’s Giolitti’s,” Zendaya replied, before returning to the interview and adding, “That’s where I’m going after this.”
The brief exchange stood out because “Marie” is Zendaya’s middle name. The actress’ full name is Zendaya Marie Stormer Coleman, but she was known professionally only by her first name for a long time.
The appearance marks the end of yet another promotional tour for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which sees the pair reunite on screen as Peter Parker and Michelle “MJ” Jones. For the premiere, Zendaya wore a vintage Giorgio Armani dress featuring a delicate spider web motif, while Holland opted for a burgundy Louis Vuitton suit.
The red carpet moment comes shortly after Holland publicly confirmed that he and Zendaya are married. In an interview with Esquire UK in June, the actor referenced an AI-generated image purporting to show the couple’s wedding and was asked if he was worried that his family might think they were left out of the celebration.
“No, because they were all there,” Holland said. “That’s all you can do.”
Elsewhere in the interview, he reflected on their relationship and the support they provided each other as they navigated life in the public eye.
“Our business can create some very stressful situations, but it’s really great to have a foundation of relationships that stand the test of time,” Holland said. “We can support each other in a way that only we can, because we’re the only ones who really understand what it’s like to live this life. I think that’s such a luxury, because I don’t understand how you can do that with other people.”
“So for me, I found the right person. She’s my best friend and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been when I’m with her. But I’ve never felt so supported and safe.”
