Comedian and actor Mickey Gooch Jr., who became famous as the man who lost his virginity at the age of 35 in Rebel Wilson’s autobiography, was inadvertently involved in a skit on Broadway in which he read Wilson’s sexual confessions.
Appearing at a recent performance of the “Celebrity Autobiography” show (a comedy revue in which a rotating cast of celebrities read verbatim the memoirs of other stars) at the Shubert Theater in New York City, Gooch was introduced by fellow comedian Kathy Griffin.
There was only one catch. He was not told in advance that he was scheduled to read excerpts from Wilson’s memoirs, particularly those in which Wilson appears as his first lover.
After Gooch took the stage, Griffin began reading a chapter from Rebel Rising titled “Late Bloomers.” In that chapter, Wilson detailed his meeting with Gooch and their first date leading up to the main event.
“Mix, this may be news to you reading this, but yes, I lost my virginity to you,” Griffin said in his speech. “And you were a great shag.”
Gooch remained admirably calm, humorously ad-libbing and interjecting unnecessary details into Griffin’s readings. After Griffin’s “Wow!” comment, he let out a loud “Aye!” He then comically punched the air, much to the amusement of the audience.
This performance was one of the final shows of the highly successful Celebrity Autobiography show, and was Gooch’s first time on Broadway.
“It was a pretty surreal way to make my Broadway debut,” Gooch said of the surprise that happened to him. “I think I literally popped the cherry on Broadway.”
Wilson, 46, dated Gooch, 41, for several months in 2015, and they were seen getting cozy and “very cuddly” with each other on a dinner date in Manhattan at the time.
The two met while working on the 2016 film How to Be Single.
The pair split amicably in September of that year, but a source told Us Weekly: “It’s been difficult for him. They’re still friends, so I don’t know if they’ll ever get back together.”
In February 2023, Wilson confirmed that he was engaged to jewelry designer Ramona Agruma. The couple exchanged vows in a romantic ceremony in Italy in September 2024 and are now parents to two daughters.
