Kyle Cook sent fans into a frenzy on Thursday when he announced that he would be leaving the hit reality show Summer House after 10 seasons. But shortly after, he edited the caption of his Instagram post to clear up speculation.
Cook initially said it was the “end of an era π” while sharing a photo of the iconic Sag Harbor home where the cast lived while filming the show.
“I can’t tell you how hard it was to smile in this photo with the producers. As usual, I was the last one to leave the house for the launch because we took out so much equipment. But this year was different. There are 10 seasons in the books, a new show is starting, and it was a heartbreaking way to end one hell of a run,” he wrote.
Cook, 43, added that he was “in tears” about leaving the show that made him famous. Because, “We really became a family while filming this show, and it was really heartbreaking to leave this house for good.”
He continued, in part, “I think I can finally close this chapter (but don’t blame me if I post about things in the past that are much happier than driving home alone while filming a crossover). Finally, thank you to the fans who believed in this show and for all your support over the past 10 years. β€οΈ ππ» xoxo.”
But after a few minutes, he adjusted his caption to read: “Edit! The end of season 10 and what I know of as 10 years of filming on this show has ended.”
“The show is not canceled and this is not an announcement that I won’t be returning. I was feeling emotional and always planned on sharing the cover photo because it felt like the end of an era. That’s why everyone else said goodbye so emotionally in the finale. I’m sorry, everyone!”
Still, fans expressed shock and confusion in the comments section.
One person wrote: “I’ll miss you! Cook, I love you! β€οΈ,” while another added: “Oh no.”
A third said: “There’s no Summerhouse without Kyle Cooke,” while a fourth commented incredulously: “Wait a minute, what does this mean???”
A rep for the show told Page Six that Cook “meant on the show the end of 10 years and getting married.”
A representative for Mr. Cook did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment Thursday afternoon.
Cook began appearing on the show in 2017 and married co-star Amanda Batula while it was on the air, but they divorced earlier this year.
Batula and co-star West Wilson made bombshell statements in March revealing that they had been secretly dating, a revelation that shocked the cast, including Ciara Miller, Wilson’s ex-girlfriend and Batula’s ex-best friend.
According to TMZ, the confusion arose after news broke on Monday that Wilson was “not selected” for Season 11 following the scandal surrounding his relationship with Amanda Batula.
A source close to the reality show told the outlet that Wilson may make a cameo appearance next season.
