The hit movie from the 1990s and 1990s is being revived after 24 years.
Austin Powers, the comedy spy series that has given us three movies, lots of belly laughs, and unforgettable characters, is finally getting its fourth installment.
The news was confirmed by star and creator Mike Myers (who stars as Austin Powers), who said he had confirmed the sequel was in the works, but did not provide further details.
While attending Trevor Noah’s World Cup viewing party this week, the actor asked a big question from an intrepid fan.
“Will we ever see Austin Powers 4?” they asked.
Myers didn’t need a second to respond, immediately telling the fan, “Yes.”
But that’s all the details fans have so far, with the actor avoiding any further details, such as what the new movie will be about or which big stars might make cameos.
“Austin Powers” is a parody of the hugely popular classic spy movies, telling the story of a highly sexualized cryogenically frozen 1960s secret agent who awakens in the modern day.
Our first exposure to the series was in 1997 with the release of Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Two years later, in 1999, Myers returned with “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me,” and 2002 gave him “Austin Powers in Goldmember.”
In this trilogy, comedic mastermind Myers famously plays multiple roles, including the velvet-suited hero and his bald, pinky-biting nemesis Dr. Evil. He also transforms into the characters Goldmember and Fat Bastard.
This hilarious series boasts wild A-list cameos, including appearances by Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow, Britney Spears, and Beyoncé.
At the box office, the three films collectively grossed a staggering $676 million and won more than 20 awards, including an Oscar nomination for Best Makeup and a Grammy for Madonna’s title song, “Beautiful Stranger,” written for the second film in the series.
News of the fourth film comes 24 years after the third film was released in theaters.
Since the release, Myers has hinted at the possibility of the secret agent returning.
Most recently, Myers dropped her biggest hint when speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the 2024 AFI Life Achievement Award Gala.
“I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a project…Maybe it will be from Dr. Evil’s perspective,” he teased.
