“Elf” star Faison Love claimed he was unable to pay outstanding child support before his arrest Tuesday.
According to TMZ, the actor claimed in court documents earlier this year that he is unable to come up with $250,000 that he allegedly owes a woman named Tiffany Lee.
The 58-year-old claimed he had not earned a penny in the past 12 months and that his highest gross income in the past five years was $13,000.
Additionally, Love defended his absence from the April hearing of his child support case.
The media outlet claimed that he was suffering from a medical emergency at the time.
The “Couples Retreat” star, who at the time was ordered to surrender to 90 days in jail, was arrested Tuesday night in Hillsborough County, Florida.
He was charged with two counts of contempt of court, according to records reviewed by the newspaper.
Love, who lives in Glendale, Calif., is being held without bail at the Orient Road Jail in Tampa.
In the mugshot, he wore an orange jumpsuit and stared at the camera with a stern look on his face.
Love’s attorney did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Tuesday’s detention is not Love’s first run-in with the law.
Most recently, in February 2025, she was charged with grievous assault after a hotel employee allegedly slammed a credit card machine against her head and broke her glasses.
The alleged attack occurred in August 2024.
In July 2025, a judge found enough evidence to move forward with the case and scheduled a criminal trial.
Love was also fined $500 and sentenced to 180 days in jail for a 2017 assault at Ohio’s John Glenn Columbus International Airport.
The comedian pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge after he was caught on camera assaulting an attendant.
