Let’s be quiet.
In the wake of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s “inexplicable” divorce, the singer has decided to “cancel her tour” in order to sit down and “examine herself.”
The Grammy nominee, 56, told listeners of her podcast “SmartLess” on Monday that this moment, which happened “a few years ago now,” was a “turning point” for her.
That’s when Lopez asked herself, “What the hell is going on? Forget about everyone else. In a sense, there’s no one to blame here but myself. … What are you doing? What’s going on?”
She appeared to subtly reference Affleck, who she split from in 2024, admitting that “sometimes people do bad things” and joking that she could share the details “over a glass of wine” with her podcast co-hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes.
Lopez said she had a “gravitational pull” into her life, adding: “I felt like my life was blowing up before my eyes, whether people on the outside knew it or not.”
Specifically, Lopez was first engaged to Affleck, 53, from 2002 to 2004, and the two reunited in 2021 and married the following year.
Since breaking up with her Gigli co-star, Lopez has been looking inward and studying the “patterns” of her past relationships.
“I went back to that little girl (who I used to be) and was able to really see her,” the performer said. “And I was like, ‘You’ve done this. You’ve done all this. Be a little mean to yourself. Give yourself a little love! Stop looking for love in other things and give love to yourself.'”
Additionally, her sister Linda Lopez also gave some important advice, advising Jennifer to be her own “keeper.”
She said: “These are all little pieces. I feel like the journey is like a little puzzle piece where you sit there and slowly fit it in…and say, ‘It’s me.'”
The actress went on to praise that she is truly “happy” right now.
“That’s all for the last 20 years, the last five years have been tumultuous, and the last two years have been kind of a healing process from that turbulence, where I really got to know myself,” she said. “I’m so different today than I was two years ago. It’s crazy.”
Lopez, who was recently rumored to be dating her Office Romance co-star Brett Goldstein, walked down the aisle three times before marrying Affleck. She was previously married to model Ojani Noa, dancer Cris Judd, and singer Marc Anthony.
She welcomed twins with her third husband, and Ms. Lopez is currently adjusting to being an empty nester as her 18-year-old children graduate from high school and go to college.
The mother of two tearfully addressed her transition on Monday’s episode, saying she plans to keep busy with “fulfilling” and “purposeful” projects.
