Simon Pegg credits the Mission: Impossible series with helping him get in shape.
The British actor, who joined Tom Cruise’s action movie as IMF technician Benji Dunn in Mission: Impossible III in 2006, told Page Six at the Disclosure Day premiere earlier this week that he “learned to take care of myself a little bit.”
“Mission: Impossible was the one that taught me the joy of being healthy.”
Pegg, 56, said she started getting in shape because “I had to play a secret agent, so I had to look like a secret agent, but I realized that I actually had a lot of fun taking care of myself, like giving myself the best chance.”
The “Star Trek” star joked that he’s now able to enjoy foods he probably ignored before, like seeds.
“They’re amazing!” he exclaimed.
Pegg attended the glitzy premiere because he is friends with director Steven Spielberg, with whom he worked on The Adventures of Tintin and Ready Player One.
He explained that he loves being around the highly regarded director. “Because he’ll tell you, ‘Hey, Stephen, how was ‘Jaws?’
Pegg agreed that he is “a bit” a movie geek, but refused to characterize himself as a regular geek.
“Look at me,” he joked. “It worked for me!”
Pegg’s voice will be heard next year in a supporting role in the hugely successful Ice Age comic book series.
“I love playing that character and any time I get the chance to play that role, I’m happy to do it,” he explained, noting that he had no idea how much he was making on the film.
“I don’t think about that,” Pegg said. “I’m doing it for the love of it.”
The glitzy Lincoln Center premiere was attended by the film’s stars Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Josh O’Connor and Eve Hewson, as well as celebrities including John Krasinski, Paul Dano, Zoe Kazan and Neil deGrasse Tyson.
