Katy Perry kicked off the 2026 World Cup with a bang.
She brought the energy to Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium on Friday night for the tournament’s opening ceremony wearing a silver Stella McCartney FW26 ready-to-wear dress.
The floor-length dress featured an exaggerated waistline and was made of what appeared to be long tinsel. Perhaps it’s a nod to Tinseltown, the home of this year’s pageant.
The pop star performed the song “Wonder” from her 2024 album “143.”
Perry didn’t attend the performance alone, as she chose to share the global stage with a special guest.
The day before she took the stage, Perry shared a TikTok video introducing Tius, a 10-year-old boy from Norway, to the world.
“That little voice you’re hearing right now is Tius,” she wrote next to the clip, as a young voice can be heard singing.
“Tius recorded his part on ‘Wonder’ in 2021 when he was five years old. I heard his vocals in 2023 and was inspired to write the verse for ‘Wonder’, which I included on my sixth album,” she explained. “Tius is now 10 years old and flew from Norway to LA to sing this song with us at the World Cup on Friday ✨⚽”
Perry opened the star-studded number, which also featured Tyra and Anitta.
The U.S. intro is one of three opening ceremonies by the host nation, with Shakira headlining in Mexico City on Thursday, followed by Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé and others in Canada on Friday afternoon.
While Perry represents the United States, he also has connections to the North after going public with his relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in December.
Her “Teenage Dream”-era wardrobe has since become decidedly more subdued, especially for public political events, but she returned to her pop-star ways for Friday night’s stage performance.
The couple made their red carpet debut earlier this week when Prime Minister Trudeau accompanied them to the premiere of their new concert film at the Tribeca Film Festival.
The pair, who have been together for nearly a year, are unabashedly showing off tons of PDA for the cameras, hugging while watching Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris.
Throughout the tournament, we’ll find out which team the California native has his roots in.
