Variety reports that Apple TV has renewed “Widow’s Bay” for a second season.

Additionally, series creator, executive producer and showrunner Katie Dippold has signed a multi-year overall deal with Apple TV. The news was announced ahead of the season 1 finale, which concludes on June 17th. “Widow’s Bay” originally debuted on April 29th.

“Season 2 is about how everything on the island is great and there’s nothing to worry about,” Dippold said.

“Widow’s Bay” stars Matthew Rhys, Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickie, K. Callan, and Jeff Hiller. The show’s logline reads:

“There’s something lurking beneath the surface in Widow’s Bay. Mayor Tom Loftis (Reith) is desperate to revive his struggling neighborhood. There’s no Wi-Fi, cell phone reception is spotty, and he has to contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him, but they don’t. They think he’s nice and mean. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son, and miraculously succeeds in turning the island into a tourist destination. Unfortunately, for decades the locals were right, but the ridiculous stories started happening again. ”

As previously mentioned, Dippold serves as the series’ creator, showrunner, and executive producer. Hiro Murai serves as executive producer along with Carver Karaszewski through Chum Films, and Murai directed five episodes in the first season. Claudia Shinn and Reese will also serve as executive producers. Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung also directed the first season, which was produced by Apple Studios.

Dippold is repped by WME and Ziffren Brittenham.

“From the moment viewers arrived at Widow’s Bay, they were immersed in all the spooky mysteries, unexpected laughs, and cursed secrets that Katie, Hiro, Matthew, and the entire team created,” said Matt Chernis, Head of Programming at Apple TV. “This show has become one of those shows that everyone is talking about, and we’re thrilled that viewers continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to come back for another season.”

Since its release, Widow’s Bay has been well received by audiences and critics alike. The show has a critical approval rating of 97% on Rottem Tomatoes. In her review for Variety, Alison Herman praised the show’s “delicately balanced performances that sustain both heart-pounding suspense and wry humor for impressively long periods.”
