Shakira kicked off the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup with an epic opening ceremony number.
The Colombian pop star, 49, wowed the crowd at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca on Thursday with an upbeat performance of her and Nigerian singer Burna Boy’s song “Die Die.”
The song, which they also co-wrote, is the official anthem of this year’s soccer tournament.
Wearing a yellow cut-out top, patchwork skort and futuristic sunglasses, Shakira stormed out, swaying her signature hips and tousling her strawberry blonde hair.
The songstress made history by becoming the first and only artist to perform at four different FIFA World Cups.
The highly anticipated event began with a dance routine highlighting Aztec culture before Shakira and Burna Boy took to the stage.
Mexican rock band Mana performed their hit song “Oye Mi Amor,” followed by performances by J. Balvin, Belinda, Alejandro Fernandez, Los Angeles Azules, Lila Downs and Danny Ocean.
Mexico will play South Africa in the first match of the tournament, followed by South Korea against the Czech Republic on Thursday night at Estadio Akron near Guadalajara.
This year’s FIFA World Cup will feature three separate opening ceremonies held over two days in the three host countries (Mexico, Canada, and the United States).
Alanis Morissette will headline Canada’s opening ceremony on Friday afternoon at BMO Field in Toronto, with additional performances from Alessia Cara, Elianna, Jesse Reyes, Michael Bublé, Nora Fatehi, Sunjoy, Vegedream and William Prince.
Canada will then play against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Later that night, Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, Lisa, Rema and Tyra are scheduled to perform at the third and final Opening Ceremony at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles ahead of the USA vs. Paraguay game.
The FIFA World Cup concludes on July 19th at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
