Edgar Ramirez is the latest addition to the cast of HBO’s “Tusk” Season 2.
Ramirez joins the return of Season 1 star Mark Ruffalo, as well as previously announced new additions Mahershala Ali, Harry Melling, Adam Nagaitis and Amina Nieves. The official logline for the new season reads, “Tom Brandis (Mark Ruffalo) takes command of a new task force, but the deeper the operation gets, the harder it becomes to tell who’s the target.”
Ramirez will star as Miguel Contreras, who is described as a “dedicated family man and loyal Drug Enforcement Agency second-in-command torn between duty and guilt.”
Ramirez previously starred opposite Nicole Kidman in the HBO limited series “The Undoing.” He has been nominated for two Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards, all four of which were for playing the title role. He was nominated for both awards for “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story,” and two other awards for “Carlos,” in which he played Ilic Ramírez Sánchez, aka Carlos the Jackal. Other television credits include “Doctor Death,” and he has also appeared in films such as “Emilia Perez,” “Les Arenas,” and “Jungle Cruise.”
He is repped by CAA, Impression Entertainment, Narrative PR and Hirsch Wallerstein.
“Tusk” debuted to high praise from both critics and audiences. Season 1 received a 96% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is widely considered a strong contender for this year’s Emmy Awards.
Brad Inglesby created the series and also serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. In addition to starring, Ruffalo will also serve as executive producer. Paul Lee and Mark Roybal will serve as executive producers for WIIP along with Jeremiah Zagar and Ron Schmidt. Nicole Jordan-Webber and Karen Wacker will serve as co-executive producers. Casting will be handled by Beery Thomas & Associates.
Deadline first reported Ramirez’s casting.
