Netflix’s Scooby-Doo reboot has been met with ridicule on social media after the first trailer was released.

Scooby-Doo: Origins is currently in production and is scheduled to premiere worldwide on Netflix in 2027.

The cast includes McKenna Grace as Daphne, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma, Maxwell Jenkins as Fred, and Paul Walter Hauser, who is widely expected to voice Scooby.

Minutes after the trailer was posted on TikTok, fans flooded with comments claiming that Netflix adopted the wrong breed of dog for the series.

“He’s not a Great Dane. He barks but won’t talk. You should take him back and fix him!” one viewer complained.

“Scoob is a golden Great Dane with black spots. Not a chocolate lab,” another added.

A third person agreed, commenting: “That’s not great Dane, are you kidding me now!”

“Netflix ruins everything it touches. It’s not a Great Dane, it doesn’t talk, it doesn’t look hairy. It just doesn’t. I hope it has a Sonic effect after public comment,” a fourth claimed, referring to when the filmmakers were forced to redesign the blockbuster Sonic movie series after fan backlash to the first trailer.

Meanwhile, another added: “Scooby is a great Dane! Someone call the team that bullied the Sonic movie designers!”

However, some argue that Netflix actually hired a Great Dane, and that people are being misled because the dog is young and appearances can be deceiving.

“I guess we don’t know what a Labrador puppy looks like because it’s not a lab,” one fan said.

Another dog argued, “Yes, you’re right. I have two Great Danes. Great Dane puppies are like labs for about 7 months!”

“Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold” features Detective Chimpanzee (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson), Velma Dinkley (voiced by Kate Micucci), Shaggy Rogers (voiced by Matthew Lillard), Scooby-Doo, Fred Jones, and Daphne Blake. warner bros

Origins is described as a modern reimagining of the iconic group of mystery-solving teens and their special dog. During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne become embroiled in a haunting mystery involving a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy who may be a witness to a supernatural murder.

“Along with the down-to-earth Velma and the quirky but handsome new student Freddie, they set out to solve the case, which draws everyone into a creepy nightmare where all their secrets threaten to be revealed.”

Scooby-Doo: Origins will arrive on Netflix in 2027.
