“Saturday Night Live” alum Cheri Oteri will screen her new pilot, “Zen Room,” at the Dances with Film Festival.
Oteri is currently starring in the new Scary Movie, which opens this weekend, in which she co-wrote and stars in a mockumentary-style workplace comedy that “skewers the world of yoga and wellness while celebrating community,” according to the official description. The show takes place in a small town in Central America in a single-camera, character-driven format.
Oteri leads the cast as “a business-savvy partner under house arrest whose antics are equal parts confusing and stirring.” Ashley Joyce, who co-wrote with Oteri, plays Lauren, described as “a true idealist with a true passion for yoga, wellness and community who drives change in her quirky town.” Additional characters local to the town include an upperclassman, a former cheerleader, and a bartender. Lisa Beasley and Aaron Laterell round out the cast.
Layne Marie Williams will direct and John Silver will serve as executive producer. Produced by Ashton Swinford and Amy Tian.
“Zen Room” will be screened at Dance with Films at TCL Chinese Theater on June 20th at 1:45 p.m.
“A business partner under house arrest and a dreamer with a yoga mat – The Zen Room is a heartwarming and funny look at a chaotic community,” Oteri said. “We’re not trying to create something new. We aim to bridge the divide in America with the story of this small town and this Zen Room community. ‘Zen Room’ pokes fun at the wellness industry while delivering a heartfelt and loving story.” Friendship, family, and follow-through. ”
Oteri recently reprized her role as Gale Halestorm in the reboot of Scary Movies, which premiered on June 5, and is currently starring in the Broadway production of Celebrity Autobiography at New York City’s Shubert Theater.
Oteri is represented by Brave Artist Management, Danis, Panaro, Nist Talent (DPN), Ferrari Talent & Goodman, Genou, Shenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher.
