Mark Wahlberg is attracting attention with his wild transformation in the new mafia movie “By Any Means.”
In the newly released trailer, Wahlberg can be seen playing the role of notorious Mafia hitman Gregory Scarpa. Although his famous physique remains the same, facial prosthetics have dramatically changed his appearance.
The actor appears to be wearing a nose prosthesis and also appears to be donning a thick dark wig with retro sideburns for the edgy role.
The ‘Planet of the Apes’ actor also appears to be sporting a wider jawline for his amazing transformation into the mob hitman also known as the Grim Reaper and the Mad Hatter.
Wahlberg, 55, is seen wearing a variety of 1960s styles in the trailer, but despite the dramatic transformation, a white tank top with a gold chain stands out as his potential identifier.
The crime thriller follows a black FBI agent played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as he and Wahlberg’s Scarpa investigate the murder of a prominent civil rights activist in 1960s Mississippi.
Shot in Atlanta, Georgia and inspired by a true story, the story thickens as the line between justice and revenge becomes blurred during a brutal hunt.
“I’m excited to share the trailer for my new film ‘By Any Means,’ which is based on a true story,” the actor said via Facebook earlier this week, noting that the film will be released in theaters in September.
Fans took to the comment thread to criticize the film and Wahlberg’s unusual appearance, with one person writing, “Count me officially ‘booked and busy’ the moment this hits theaters.”
Another wrote, “This is all Al Capone! I’m in!” Meanwhile, a third joked: “Why a nose? There’s no way you can’t see it.”
Wahlberg is not the first actor to go to great lengths to hide his natural appearance for a movie.
Earlier this year, on the set of Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol in London, Johnny Depp surprised fans by transforming into the iconic holiday miser.
In April, David Duchovny was spotted wearing a black sequin skirt and blonde wig while filming Andrew Jay Cohen’s upcoming film Soapbox in Los Angeles.
And prior to that, in October 2025, Jonah Hill was spotted on the set of Cut Off with Kirsten Wiig in Los Angeles, looking slim and unrecognizable in a retro outfit.
