Mubi has released the full trailer for the queer satirical slasher Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.
The film stars Hanna Einbinder and Gillian Anderson and is scheduled for theatrical release on August 7th on Mubi.
Camp Miasma is writer-director Jane Schoenbrun’s third feature film, following 2021’s We’re Going to the World’s Fair and 2024’s I Saw the TV Glow.
The film’s metaplot description reads as follows: “After years of slapstick sequels and declining fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher series is taken over by an enthusiastic young director looking to revive it. But when she visits the star of the original film, a now mysterious and reclusive actress, both women find themselves in a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and derangement.”
The cast also includes Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Jasmine Savoy Brown, Quintessa Swindell, Kevin McDonald, and Jack Heaven.
The Cannes world premiere of Miasma received a six-minute standing ovation, and Variety magazine’s film review praised Anderson and Einbinder’s performances and director Schoenbrunn.
In addition to the new film, Schoenbrunn will publish his debut novel, Public Access Afterworld, through Hogarth this year. Schoenbrunn will also write, direct, and produce a series adaptation of the graphic novel “Black Hole” for Netflix.
“Camp Miasma” was funded by Mubi and produced by Plan B. The rest of the world distribution is handled by Match Factory. Executive producer Daniel Bekerman of Scythia Films provided local production services.
