‘Euphoria’ fans are shocked that the show killed off Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi.
Following Sunday night’s shocking episode, viewers shared with X their reactions to Nate being buried alive and suffering a fatal snakebite.
One fan tweeted: “That whole scene with Nate and the snake in the coffin was like my worst nightmare, oh my god.”
Another fan wrote: “The way Nate died was terrible.”
A third viewer said: “That scene with Nate and that snake in ‘Euphoria’ really traumatized me.”
Another tweeted: “Oh my god, how painful was that Nate scene?”
Another viewer explained that although she “hated” Nate, she didn’t like seeing him “die in the most gruesome way possible.”
Another fan complained that the show spent too much time building Nate into a “complex character” and then suddenly killed him off.
During the episode, Nate is buried alive in a coffin by Naz (Jack Topalian), a gangster who owes him about $1 million.
Nas plans to leave Nate there with a breathing pipe for 72 hours until his wife, Kathy (Sweeney), can raise the money.
However, a rattlesnake slides down the pipe and bites Nate.
Cassie and Maddie (Alexa Demme) get the money, but are heartbroken when they arrive at the scene and find Nate’s body exhumed.
In the final “Inside the Episode” segment, Elordi, 28, called his character’s death “bittersweet.”
“It was a great way to go about it. Nate is a guy who has made so many mistakes and so many dark choices,” he said.
The Oscar nominee also said that the HBO series has been a “huge” part of his career and life, and that he is “proud” to be a part of it.
Creator Sam Levinson also defended Nate’s murder after the episode aired, telling Esquire that he wanted the scene to be “horrifying and anxiety-inducing.”
The drama series, which first aired in 2019, initially followed the characters during their high school years.
Season 3, which premiered in April, saw the characters jump five years as young adults, and Nate and Cassie get married.
“Euphoria” Season 3 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
