This low-budget blockbuster, directed by Lan Hongchun and starring Li Sitong and Wang Yantong, was once again a huge word-of-mouth hit over the weekend. The film has grossed a total of $158.1 million, solidifying its status as a box office phenomenon. This story depicts the twilight of a simple woman from Shioyama, where her debt-ridden grandson travels to Thailand to find her grandfather, who is rumored to be a billionaire, and a hidden love affair spanning half a century is revealed. “Dear You” was the third-highest grossing film worldwide over the weekend, according to ComScore.
Disney’s “Star Wars” universe film “The Mandalorian and Grogu” was the highest-grossing film worldwide over the weekend, debuting in second place in China with $5.3 million.
Zhonghe Qiancheng’s suspense thriller “Vanishing Point” slipped to third place, adding $3.2 million for a solid $67.4 million total. The film adaptation of the novel “Anemone,” directed by Chen Weihao and starring Zhen Kai and Liu Haochun, details the intersecting secrets that come to light in an apartment building after a child suddenly disappears on the day of the winter solstice.
Shigu Film’s romantic comedy “Be Yourself” took fourth place, adding $1.1 million for a total box office total of $10.9 million. Directed by Huang Xi and starring Zhuang Dafei and Wang Anyu, the film follows new graduate Wu Xiaobei as she overcomes a serious heartbreak following the sudden end of her first love affair. Rounding out the top five was Momo Pictures’ romantic comedy “Crossing a Dawn,” which debuted with $700,000 over its two-day opening slot. The film, written and directed by Qiao Badu and starring Sandra Ma and Edward Chen, chronicles two people who discover an unexpected romantic connection when a chance encounter on a date turns into a series of unique interruptions in the city over the course of one night.
Overall weekend box office revenue in mainland China reached $59.2 million, but year-to-date revenue in 2026 was $2.24 billion, down 43.5% compared to the same period in 2025.
