My girlfriend’s visa has officially expired.
Netflix has announced the end of the popular TV series Emily in Paris after six memorable seasons.
The streaming giant has officially confirmed that the hit romantic comedy series starring Lily Collins will end with the upcoming sixth season, marking the end of the globe-trotting adventures of Chicago marketing executive Emily Cooper.
After moving from Paris to Rome in season 4 and again to Greece in season 6, the decision to end things before finding the country that would become another hotspot gave the show a definitive finish line and allowed the writers to craft a proper finale rather than leaving viewers with another never-ending cliffhanger – as if Emily would finally return to Paris, where she belongs.
Netflix’s announcement coincided with the first day of production for the final episode in Greece, ensuring fans could have a planned and satisfying farewell to the series that became a global sensation upon its debut in 2020.
In a heartfelt statement, series creator Darren Star expressed his deep gratitude for the show’s six years on the air.
“Making Emily in Paris with this extraordinary cast and crew was the journey of a lifetime,” he exclaimed.
“Thank you for letting us be a part of your life and inspiring your travel dreams and love for Paris. We will always bring Emily to Paris!”
Collins, who stars in the series, also posted a behind-the-scenes video from the set on Instagram, telling fans that the final season will be everything they expected.
“Season 6 delivers everything you love about this show and marks the final chapter of Emily’s once-in-a-lifetime adventure,” she said.
“The entire cast and crew are working hard to make this a wonderful farewell season.”
As for where Emily Cooper’s final journey will take her, the production is gearing up for an epic farewell tour of Europe.
Continuing the events of last season, which ended with Emily and Marcello’s farewell and a surprise postcard invitation from Gabriel, the final chapter is currently being filmed on location in Greece.
According to reports, production will then stop in Monaco before finally returning to the iconic streets of Paris to conclude the series.
I mean, where else would they end up?
Netflix has yet to confirm the exact release date for the final and sixth series, but this confirmation ensures that the long-running love triangle will finally get the conclusion viewers have been waiting for.
Hallelujah.
