Khloe Kardashian has revealed that she declawed her two cats after receiving “really bad advice”.
“It was really bad advice about declawing cats. I’ve never had a cat before. I didn’t know that was a thing,” she explained on Wednesday’s episode of the “Chloe in Wonderland” podcast.
“I feel really, really bad that I went down this path. I feel like that’s why my cats are in such dire straits and it was my doing,” she admitted.
“My cats are on air tags. They’re not even allowed to go near the door. They have no way to protect themselves, so it’s very scary if they go outside. I’m so sad because they lost their protective equipment.”
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star has claimed that the two cats she kept for her daughter True, Gray Kitty and Baby Kitty, are “possessed” and trying to make her life “miserable” after undergoing widely banned surgeries.
Fans in the podcast’s comments section weren’t happy with the reality star, even though she explained that she didn’t know that veterinarians strongly discourage declawing.
“I can’t believe you declawed a cat. It’s so inhumane and so sad,” one angry person wrote.
“Declawed!???? Poor baby, this is so cruel. This should be illegal,” added another.
“Why would you consider declawing a cat? This practice is comparable to poaching elephants for their tusks. I strongly advise against acquiring any more animals,” said one person.
The Kardashian family has come under fire several times over the treatment of their many pets.
Last December, Kim Kardashian was called out by PETA after giving her four children new Pomeranian puppies for Christmas.
Ingrid Newkirk, the charity’s founder, told the Daily Mail at the time: “Puppies are not stuffed animals. It’s a huge shame that Kim has missed out on the chance to become a spokesperson for shelter dogs and has been rightly criticized on social media for doing so.”
“Ignoring the homeless animal crisis is inexcusably callous,” Newkirk said, urging Skims founders to “call PETA or your local shelter the next time you want to adopt an animal.”
In 2022, Kim posted a video of her puppies living in her garage, which has since been deleted, but was heavily criticized.
After seeing the video in question, the animal advocacy group told Page Six exclusively that it “strongly hopes” she takes other steps for her dog.
“What PETA knows is that dogs are highly social pack animals who need more than a soft bed and decorative stockings. They have the right to feel safe and loved and to live in a home as part of the family.”
