Production on Pluto Lab Films’ horror-comedy mockumentary “See Bot Run” starring Amita Rao, who broke out in “Adult,” has ended.
According to the official logline, “See Bot Run” follows “overworked and underpaid employees at a struggling tech startup on the day of the launch of a high-stakes AI product that could earn them millions of dollars.” “But when the company’s secret inventions begin to turn against them, the staff find themselves embroiled in a chaotic fight for survival…at least until the check goes through.”
“On the surface, Sea Bot Run is a chaotic workplace horror comedy, but at its core, it’s a story about people who feel trapped in a system that rewards them only when they’re useful,” said writer and producer Kevin Noonan in a statement. “The rise of AI and the culture surrounding it made the story feel more realistic while making the film.”
Directed by James Slaven, Rao plays Dina, an “over-enthusiastic and unappreciated” intern at a tech startup.
“What I love about Deena is that she strives so hard to succeed in a system that barely notices her until everything starts to fall apart,” Rao said in a statement. “The fundamental conflict between pursuing systems-based validation and following what you know is right is a question that perhaps Dina’s young, naive mind was not yet ready to confront.”
“She Bot Run” stars “Deli Boys” actor Jake Pleasant as the company’s CEO and “The Whitest Kids You Know” actor Sam Brown as a veteran sales executive who “watches the company unravel in real time.”
Behzad Dub (How to Get Away with Murder, The Chi), Jordan Stafford, Max Lazelin, Annie Sullivan, Dani James, Rogue Schmidt, Zoe Agapinan, and George Elrod make up the film’s ensemble cast.
“Everyone has experienced some version of this workplace, from impossible deadlines to executives’ inflated egos to exhausted employees who pretend everything is under control,” Slaven added in a statement. “Horror and comedy both come from pushing reality beyond its limits.”
“See Bot Run” recently finished filming in Chicago and is currently in post-production. The film was produced independently through Pluto Labs Films.
Amita Rao is repped by United Talent Agency (UTA) and Mosaic Media Group.
