Michael Bay is working on a new movie about a large-scale military operation.
Bay, who directed the 2016 military drama “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi,” is working with Universal Pictures this year to direct a film about two pilots rescued from Iran during Operation Epic Fury, Variety has confirmed.
Operation Epic Fury is a military operation against Iran authorized by President Trump starting in February 2026.
In April, a rescue operation was carried out to rescue two pilots from a crashed US Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle.
Bay will work with screenwriter Scott Gardenhour and producer Irwin Stoff, both of whom will co-star in “13 Hours.” Bay and Stoff are producing the film, and Garden Hour is adapting the screenplay for an upcoming book on the Mitchell Zakoff case, set to be published by HarperCollins in 2027.
Director Bay has a long history of working with the U.S. military to add realism to films such as the “Transformers” series, “Pearl Harbor” and “The 13 Hours.”
After the rescue, President Trump responded with an enthusiastic post on Truth Social, writing, “We got him! My fellow Americans, over the past few hours, the U.S. military pulled off one of the most daring search and rescue operations in U.S. history for one of our great crew officers. He happens to be a highly respected colonel, and I’m happy to let you all know he’s safe and sound! This brave warrior was behind enemy lines in the treacherous mountains.” Iran was cornered by an enemy that was drawing ever closer, but he was far from alone, as the commander-in-chief, the secretary of the Army, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and his fellow fighters monitored his position around the clock and feverishly planned his rescue. He was injured, but he will be fine. ”
Deadline first reported the news.
