Zahara Jolie Pitt is moving on to a new chapter in her life, in more ways than one.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter graduated from Spelman College over the weekend. And when she took to the stage to receive her diploma, she was announced as Zahara Marley Jolie, minus the “Pitt” from her name.
The 21-year-old earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Atlanta.
This is not the first time she has revealed her estranged father’s last name in public.
When Zahara joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha organization in 2023, she proudly declared herself Zahara Marley Jolie.
In a video of her sorority induction ceremony, she screamed it out while shaking her hair and doing a series of moves.
At the time, social media users pointed out that one of her siblings also dropped their father’s last name years ago.
In 2021, Us Weekly reported that the former couple’s son Maddox “does not use Pitt as his last name on documents that are not legally recognized, instead using Jolie.”
A source claimed: “Maddox wants to legally change his last name to Jolie, but Angelina says she doesn’t support that.”
In 2024, his youngest daughter Vivian also appeared to diss her father while working with her mother on the Broadway production of The Outsiders.
At the time, her name was listed as “Vivienne Jolie” on the show’s flyer.
Meanwhile, Shiloh made it official by dropping Pitt from his last name on his 18th birthday.
Entertainment Tonight reported in June 2024 that the teenager “hired her own lawyer and paid for her own.”
The former couple have six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivian.
Jolie adopted Maddox from Cambodia in 2002, and adopted Zahara three years later. Pitt legally adopted the pair in December 2005.
She adopted Pax from Vietnam in 2007 when he was 3 years old. Pitt, 62, adopted Pax a year later.
The “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” co-stars began dating in 2005, but didn’t get married until 2014. They welcomed Shiloh in 2006, followed by twins Knox and Vivian in 2008.
All six children have reportedly distanced themselves from their father following Pitt and Jolie’s separation in 2016.
Page Six reported in 2024 that Pitt hopes to “build” a bond with his children once they “get older and move on with their own lives.”
But last summer, Us Weekly reported that the “F1” star still has a “strained” relationship with his children, despite “several efforts to repair the relationship.”
A source told the publication that this has “caused him great heartbreak” and that he is “carrying deep emotional weight” regarding his family.
