Donald Trump has shared AI images on social media of himself dressed as the Pope and a Christ-like figure healing the sick.
Now, President Trump’s White House has extended his self-mythologizing tendencies to one of cinema’s most hallowed figures: British superspy James Bond.
On Saturday night, the White House posted on social media an image of President Trump as a silhouette of 007 on a fake movie poster, overlaid with the words “Make America Great Again.” (Never mind that Bond works for the British government’s foreign intelligence agency, MI6, which alone disqualifies the 79-year-old Trump from the job.)
The White House was reacting to the news (first reported by Variety) that Amazon MGM Studios recently began auditions to find the next James Bond. The studio has tapped casting director Nina Gold (Game of Thrones, The Force Awakens, The Crown) to lead the process of naming Daniel Craig’s successor. Variety also exclusively reported that Tom Francis, known for his role in the revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard, was one of the actors who tried out for the role.
Internet users were quick to mock the White House’s “Trump as Bond” meme.
One X user posted “License to the Groom” and an image of Jeffrey Epstein dressed as 007, alluding to Trump’s ties to the deceased sex offender. Another user shared an image of a pot-bellied President Trump with the caption, “Pie Another Day.” One commenter uploaded an AI-generated photo of President Trump holding an overweight James Bond holding a Big Mac instead of a gun, along with the text, “I don’t care about your finances” (referring to the president’s recent comments about the Iran war, “I don’t care about Americans’ finances”).
In February 2025, Amazon-MGM Studios announced a deal with longtime Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, giving the studio full creative control of the series.
