Variety exclusively reports that Martha Plimpton and Clifton Collins Jr. have joined Season 2 of “The Lowdown.”
The pair are the latest additions to the FX series’ second season, along with Tommy Lee Jones, Betty Gilpin, and Austin Amelio. Starring Ethan Hawke, the season 1 cast also includes Keith David, Kyle MacLachlan, Gene Tripplehorn, Tim Blake Nelson, Ryan Keira Armstrong, Michael “Killer Mike” Render, Kanietio Horne, Tracy Letts, Peter Dinklage, and Graham Greene.
The exact character details of Plimpton and Collins are kept secret.
Plimpton’s credits include films such as The Goonies (1985), The Mosquito Coast (1986), and Parenthood (1989), as well as the Fox sitcom Raising Hope from 2010 to 2014. Most recently, he appeared in the 2021 film “Mass” and the HBO shows “The Regime” and “Tusk.” She has been nominated for three Emmy Awards for her roles on Law & Order: SVU, Raising Hope, and The Good Wife, and won the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series award in 2012.

Collins was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2006 for her work on the miniseries “Thief,” another FX project. He has also appeared in shows such as “Westworld,” “The Last Frontier” and “Veronica Mars.” In film, he is known for his work in films such as “Dream Train,” “Eddington,” “The Jockey,” “Capote,” and “Nightmare Alley.”

The first season of “The Lowdown” was originally aired on September 23, 2025, consisting of eight episodes, and received high praise. It was renewed for season 2 in January 2026. Hawke stars in the series as Lee Rabon, a rare book dealer and self-proclaimed “truth scholar” from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Lee’s latest investigation involves the wealthy and powerful Washburg family, drawing him deeper into a deadly conspiracy.
“Reservations Dogs” creator Starlin Harjo created “The Lowdown” and serves as executive producer and showrunner. Garrett Basch, Ethan Hawke and Ryan Hawke also serve as executive producers. FX Productions is the studio.
