The Batman: Part 2 director Matt Reeves has published a post on X featuring Robert Pattinson introducing a number of additional characters confirmed to be joining the cast of the upcoming sequel.
Among the currently confirmed newcomers, Reeves announced that Scarlett Johansson would be joining the film, posting a photo of her in the 2013 film Under the Skin and writing, “Next exit, Gotham…welcome.” Sebastian Stan also weighed in, with Reeves writing for the “Thunderbolts*” star, “Welcome to the Gotham state of mind…” “Game of Thrones” actor Charles Dance has been cast in a superhero picture alongside “Joker” and “Eternals” star Brian Tyree Henry. German actor Sebastian Koch, who appeared in “Homeland” and “A Good Day to Die Hard,” will also join the cast.
Johansson’s involvement was first announced in December. Stan was first reported to be in talks in January to play Harvey Dent. Dance is thought to play Harvey’s father Charles Dent. Also joining the cast are Jamie Lawson, who plays Mayor Bela Real, and Gil Perez-Abraham, who plays Officer Martinez.
Reeves previously released a teaser of the Batmobile with the caption “Snow Tires,” perhaps hinting that parts of the film will take place in the winter.
Filming for the sequel is currently underway in the UK, with Pattinson reprising his role as Bruce Wayne and co-starring Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, the Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
Plot details are being kept a closely guarded secret, but in addition to the winter setting, Reeves said that the film will focus more on the character of Bruce Wayne, as “the previous film was focused on Batman.” Reeves noted that while origin stories have often been the core of Wayne’s background in previous films, The Batman Part II will give fans a new look at the man behind the mask.
“In a lot of other movies that I love, once you get past the origin story, we didn’t do it all the way, but we did something that references his origin. And then you start telling the story of Rogues Gallery and kind of the arch of that character,” Reeves said. “But I didn’t want to lose[Robert Pattinson]who is at the center of these stories. And that’s what we really set our sights on.”
“The Batman: Part 2” is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 1, 2027.
