Britney Spears’ representatives have walked back claims that the Princess of Pop may have posed any danger during her bizarre restaurant scene Wednesday night.
“This is completely out of proportion. Britney was enjoying a quiet dinner with her assistants and bodyguards. All she was saying was that her dog was barking at her neighbor,” her rep said in a statement to Page Six on Thursday.
“She never used a knife to endanger anyone,” they continued. “She was cutting the hamburger in half.”
On Thursday morning, TMZ reported that the 44-year-old singer was “raising his voice, screaming and even barking at times” during a “chaotic” scene during a visit to the Blue Dog Tavern in Los Angeles’ Sherman Oaks neighborhood on Wednesday night.
Spears reportedly dined at the restaurant with a woman and a man. At one point, a patron at the restaurant told TMZ that the singer walked past a table with a knife, raising concerns that he might harm someone with the sharp tool.
Spears’ man also allegedly lit a cigarette near the door and asked a staff member to put it out.
By the end of the scene, a witness said the singer’s table “looked like a toddler had been there.”
This update comes just a month after Spears entered rehab after being arrested for drunk driving in March. She was seen for the first time on April 30th after completing her rehabilitation stay.
At the time, a source close to the pop star told Page Six that Spears was “doing great” after her rehabilitation period and “excited to start fresh.”
“Rehab was a great opportunity for her to ground herself,” the source said.
Another source said the singer, who was reportedly encouraged by his sons to enter a rehabilitation facility, “continues to receive counseling remotely.”
Earlier this month, the “Gimme More” hitmaker pleaded guilty to a charge of drunk driving following her May 4 arrest, although she did not attend the court hearing.
Spears’ lawyers negotiated a deal in exchange for her charges to be reduced to “recklessness,” which is common for first-time offenders with low blood alcohol levels and no previous crashes.
The judge ordered Spears to complete a one-year informal probation grant and three months of alcohol school.
