Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oli Sykes suffered a mild concussion after a fan pointed a mobile phone at him while on stage during a concert.
Sykes was shocked Monday night while performing his song “Happy Song” in front of 22,000 people at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri, with a band known for its high-octane performances.
“Who just threw that phone at my head? You son of a bitch,” Sykes yelled to the audience as he crouched down in front of the stage to pick up the phone, a moment captured on fan video.
Despite the injury, Sykes finished the show, but the band cut “YOUTopia” from the set and Sykes did not enter the audience during “Drown” as usual.
“Okay, guys, I just wanted to let you know I’m okay,” Sykes wrote on her Instagram Story after the incident.
“I definitely had a slight concussion from the phone hitting me in the head, but the swelling has already gone down quite a bit.
“Last night I had a little trouble on stage afterwards because singing put a lot of pressure on my wound and I got a little disoriented while performing. So I’m sorry for what seemed like a half-hearted performance in May.
“Thank you everyone for checking in and worrying about me 🖤 Tonight’s show should be okay.”
Bring Me the Horizon continues its spring North American tour with shows in Kansas City, Missouri and St. Paul, Minnesota earlier this week, followed by a show in Rosemont, Illinois on May 15th and a headlining appearance at the Sonic Temple Festival in Columbus, Ohio on May 16th.
Earlier this month, the band played a sold-out show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on May 2nd.
This performance was Bring Me the Horizon’s first show at MSG in the United States and was a significant milestone.
Sykes is not the only performer to have been bombarded with phone calls in recent years. Pop star Bebe Rexha was hit in the face with a cell phone during a concert in New York in 2023.
The 33-year-old Brooklyn native was moving across the stage toward the audience during a performance at Pier 17’s The Rooftop when her cell phone hit her directly below her left eye.
Lexa then turned away from the crowd and fell to her knees as crew members rushed to her aid.
