Vietnam-based Skyline Media has acquired world sales rights to ProductionQ’s folk horror feature film The 10th House, and the title will be introduced to buyers at the Cannes Film Market.
This pre-production project is the latest from director/producer duo Tran Phu Tan and Hoang Quang. Based on a little-understood Vietnamese folk belief in which home builders are said to hide spells within the structure of their buildings, the film tells the story of a young man who begins recording disturbing events in his home after his father’s unexplained death, and uncovers a forbidden ritual that links the house to a growing chain of violent paranormal phenomena.
The agreement is based on the continued commercial operations of both companies. “Vietnam Horror Story” topped the Vietnam box office in 2022 as the highest-grossing horror title of the year, touring more than 45 countries and territories after breaking opening day and advance sales records, and was screened at the Gérardmer International Fantastic Film Festival in France. “Soul Reaper” was subsequently released in 2023, surpassing its predecessor to become the largest Vietnamese horror film in the genre to that point, and later distributed in Southeast Asia on Netflix. “The Sisters” was selected for the Rotterdam International Film Festival’s Limelight section, sold to more than a dozen territories, and is the highest-grossing Vietnamese period horror film on record.
“The 10th House” arrives in a market that has shown consistent demand for Asian found footage horror, including Taiwan’s “Incantation,” Thai-Korean co-production “The Medium,” and South Korea’s “Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum.”
