Taye Diggs launches vertical drama studio “MicroHouse Films”

Taye Diggs is entering the fast-growing vertical drama business. The actor partnered with producers Autumn Federici (All for Love, Forever), Shelby Stone, James Black (All American) and Troy Brookins to launch Microhouse Films.

Diggs and his partners join a field that first gained popularity overseas and now includes Hollywood veterans also dabbling in the field. Microhouse Films advertises itself as being driven by filmmakers. The partnership comes as Diggs, Brookins, Stone and Federici are currently filming the micro-drama Tides of Temptation, starring Swag Boy Q, as a spin-off to the Lifetime film Terry McMillan Presents: Paradise with You, in which Diggs stars.

“When we thought about how to meaningfully impact verticals, we immediately focused on the creators and storytellers whose livelihoods depend on where this industry goes,” Diggs said in a statement. “Micro House Film aims to support them in this next phase and create a model that allows them to continue telling the stories that move us.”

MicroHouse Films said it will launch the service with no subscription fees for creators or viewers, and will not charge fees for uploading or hosting content. Filmmakers can choose which episodes to offer for free. Additionally, when it comes to pricing, Microhouse will utilize a token-based system that allows users to watch more content through in-app coins.

“The industry is rapidly changing and we have an opportunity to redefine who benefits from this new ecosystem that puts control directly in the hands of filmmakers,” Federici, Stone, Black and Brookins said in a joint statement. “We are excited to introduce a vertical storytelling model with Microhouse Films that emphasizes both the quality of the work and the storytellers behind the content.”

Applications from filmmakers are being reviewed at https://microhousefilms.com/. Microhouse Film is represented by Bradley Garrett of Knol Hanly Garrett.
