Netflix has renewed the animated series “Stranger Things: 1985” for a second season. The news was announced just five days after the series premiered on April 23rd.
The events of the animated show take place between seasons 2 and 3 of the live-action Mothership series. The official logline states:
“In the winter of 1985, the town is blanketed in snow, and the horrors of the Upside Down are finally fading. Our heroes, Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max, have settled into a normal life of D&D, snowball fights, and quiet days. But beneath the ice, something terrifying has awakened. Is it from the Upside Down? From the depths of Hawkins Laboratory? Or somewhere else entirely? Our heroes must race to solve this mystery and save the day.” Hawkins appears in this new story set in the Stranger Things universe. ”
None of the actors from the original “Stranger Things” will reprise their roles in “Tales from ’85.” The animated show’s voice cast includes Brooklyn Davey Norstead, Luca Diaz, Braxton Quinney, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, Elisha Williams, Ben Plesara, Brett Gipson, Jeremy Jordan, and Alessandra Antonelli. Odessa Azion, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Janine Garofalo also have voice roles.
Eric Robles and Jennifer Muro developed the series, with Robles serving as executive producer and showrunner. “Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer serve as executive producers through their Upside Down Pictures along with Hilary Levitt. 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen will also serve as executive producers. Flying Bark is an animation studio.
“Tales from ’85” debuted at No. 7 on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 English TV chart for the week of April 20-26. It was watched for 13.8 million hours, which when divided by the show’s total running time equals 2.8 million episodes.
