Mel B revealed a terrifying moment during a live interview with the Spice Girls during her first pregnancy.
Page Six spoke to the singer at a Revive Collagen event in New York City on Tuesday, where she revealed that while she was pregnant with her first daughter, Phoenix, she was even asked to weigh herself on the spot.
“I mean, I remember when I was 23 and pregnant, I did an interview, a live interview, and the host said, ‘Can I weigh you, how much?'” Mel, who is a global ambassador for Revive Collagen, told us. “That would never be allowed in this day and age, right?”
“I was like, ‘I don’t care…how much do I weigh? There’s a baby growing inside me,'” she continued. “I’m not that precious, but that doesn’t happen in this day and age.”
Asked about the possibility of a Spice Girls doc containing such moments, Mel said she wasn’t against it, but said it would have to be “honest and raw”.
“But there’s nothing terrible or bad about me,” she said, admitting her time in the popular girl group, which also included Victoria Beckham, Geri Hyliwell, Emma Bunton and Mel C, “was really fun.”
“I was part of the Spice Girls and loved every minute of it,” she added. “There wasn’t a single day that it felt like it was a pain or a hassle. It was like, no matter what we faced, whether it was sexism or whatever, we supported each other as a group and stepped on it.”
The 50-year-old singer said he has always been “very, very honest” and straight to the point.
“I just speak my mind and say how I feel,” she said. “Whether it’s a mixed race woman or a black woman, it’s about embracing your hair type and rocking it, and it’s about speaking out against abuse and knowing how to come out of a relationship and do it safely.”
“It’s about not being too hard on yourself and just accepting who you are, curves, warts and all, and becoming the best version of yourself that you can be.”
Mel is the mother of daughters Phoenix (27), Angel Iris (19), and Madison (14). She has Phoenix with ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar, Angel Iris with ex-Eddie Murphy, and Madison with ex-husband Stephen Belafonte.
She married hairstylist Rory McPhee in July 2025.
When Page Six spoke to Mel last month, she revealed her position on the Spice Girls’ tour following reports that the group’s 30th anniversary reunion had been cancelled.
“In a perfect world, we would already be on tour right now, touring all over the world,” she said.
“I’m always the one who says, ‘Yeah, I’m going on tour,'” she added. “I want to go on tour. I want to do music, but that’s not happening.”
