Maren Morris took to social media to label her first relationship with a woman as “a mess.”
The songstress opened up to fans about her “bisexual journey” on TikTok on Wednesday, which she described as “pretty short.”
“I was meeting a woman briefly, but I wasn’t looking for anything serious,” she begins in the clip.
“Right now, I feel like I’m at a point in my life where I don’t have anything to give. I was all about communication, so I was very clear about that, and she was like, ‘Oh, totally. I’m depressed.'”
But “The Middle” hitmaker added: “It was obvious that wasn’t the case.”
“I’m not kidding, it’s been about three weeks since this situation completely fell apart, and it was all lies, threats to my reputation, and last-minute blackmail,” the Grammy winner recalled.
“It was pretty messed up. It was my first experience, so it was pretty depressing,” the songstress lamented, concluding that she was “really cool being alone” after the affair.
Morris said her friends in the lesbian community told her her experience was typical.
“‘Once you start dating a woman, it almost ruins your life,'” she recalled a friend telling her. “‘We’ve all been there. You just have to push through.'”
Laughing in disbelief, Morris asked a fan: “Is that true?” She jokingly captioned the upload, “Trauma.”
Fans took to the comment thread to voice their opinions about the singer’s unfortunate experience. One person wrote: “This is my first experience – unfortunately,” while another added: “Don’t give up yet and stay strong!!!”
“Everyone else will go crazy…but good luck. It will happen when you’re ready. You have to get better at being alone first!” said a third.
Others were optimistic about Morris, with one exclaiming, “Yeah, let’s push through! I found the love of my life, who I’m marrying this summer!”
Morris, 36, filed for divorce from Ryan Hurd in 2023 after five years of marriage, and the divorce was finalized in 2024. The former couple have a 6-year-old son, Hayes.
The “Bones” singer came out as bisexual in a June 2024 Instagram post that was later deleted. “Happy and proud to be an LGBTQ+ B🌈,” she captioned a photo from her RSVP Redux tour at the time.
Since then, she is said to have briefly dated Justin Asada from Perfect Match, and the reality star seemingly confirmed they were dating in a snapshot she shared to her Instagram Story in September 2024.
However, in August 2025, the mother of one was less than polite about her post-divorce dating experience.
“I started dating a little bit[after the divorce]and I just met some fuckers who couldn’t pay,” she said, detailing the inspiration for her hit song “Too Good.”
“I brought this idea to my co-writers and thought, ‘I’ve been with some losers. I think this is just bad luck. It’s going to be over soon,'” she said at the time during an intimate performance.
While talking about her album Dreamsicle, she also said it was inspired by the “aftermath” of her separation from Heard.
“This is not just a tragedy, it’s a gift that I learned from,” she said during a Soho Sessions concert.
“I learned to write through whatever I was going through. That’s kind of the point of songwriting. I never wanted to write about those things, but I learned about myself and what I actually like to write about, so I think it’s just really, unfiltered.”
