Supriya Ganesh exits The Pit season 2 finale: What’s in the future for Mohan?

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of “The Pit,” “9 p.m.,” now streaming on HBO Max.

Supriya Ganesh’s Dr. Mohan bid adieu in the season 2 finale of ‘The Pit’. After spending most of his time at odds with Dr. Robbie, played by Noah Wyle, the two finally have a civilized discussion in the final episode, where she admits, “Maybe I’ll go into geriatrics.”

He answered that it was a wise choice, and then said that he, too, had to reevaluate when life didn’t go as planned. Eventually, the two bury the hatchet as she says, “Have a nice trip. Stay safe. Even if you’re a terrible person sometimes, we need you here. Good luck.” He replies, “You too.”

Variety reported the news earlier this month that Ganesh would not be returning to play Dr. Mohan and that Ayesha Harris (who played night shift Dr. Parker Ellis) would be promoted to series regular. However, creator R. Scott Gemmill is still considering what other changes could be made as he plans next season.

“We’re still trying to figure it out ourselves, but you’ll definitely see some new faces. That’s part of the fun of the show: watching people ride by on their bikes,” he says.

Does this mean we will see Mohan again in the future?

“I don’t know. I don’t think so, but you never know,” Gemmill says. “If there’s a good reason and a good story, or if the show demands it, if the storyline demands it, then certainly yes. We’re still in some of the early stages of figuring out season three.”

Dr. Al Hashimi’s job security is also up in the air after he revealed that he suffered two seizures while on duty. However, it is likely that Sepideh Moafi will return for season 3, as Gemmil has stated, “We would like to explore things with her.”

Gemmil and Wiley recently opened up about the news of Ganesh’s departure to Variety magazine, surprising viewers.

“It’s inevitable that that happens every season on this show, because as writers, it’s hard for us to understand how much time has passed and we can realistically keep most of the ensemble together,” Wiley said. “There’s a high revolving door in the emergency room. As usual, we go through cast changes and to keep the storyline fresh, we try to introduce new characters or promote from within, but obviously Supriya has been a big part of our show from the beginning. Dr. Mohan is a beloved character and I love playing with her and working with Supriya. We wish her all the best in her next endeavours, and we will miss her.”

Gemmill added that this development is “in the nature of the show” due to its structure. “Unfortunately, the way the medical profession works is you come in, learn, and move on. We want to stay as true to that process as possible,” he told Variety. “So we’re going to rotate the cast. But I think this is a great starting point for people. That’s the best we can do.”
