CBS announced Wednesday its 2026-2027 primetime schedule, which airs only two new dramas (including the surprise addition of the new spinoff “NCIS: New York”) and one new comedy, but the rest is filled with returning series. Along with “NCIS: New York,” new to The Eye Network’s fall schedule is the drama “Cupertino,” and the comedy “Eternally Yours” is also new. As part of its fall announcements, CBS has revealed that it will save two of its biggest hits, “Matlock” and “Ghost,” until midseason.
“The fact that we’re in a position to move serious hits like ‘Matlock’ and ‘Ghost’ to mid-season speaks to the strength of our schedule,” said CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach.
In announcing its schedule, CBS announced that the new drama “NCIS: New York” will air on Tuesdays at 9pm ET, sandwiched between “NCIS” and “NCIS: Origins.” (Returning show “NCIS: Sydney” returns midseason.) On Thursday, new drama “Eternally Yours” will air at 8:30 p.m. after “Georgie and Mandy’s First Wedding,” while frosh drama “Cupertino” will air at 10 p.m., meaning “Elsbeth” will air at 9 p.m.

“FBI” and “CIA” will air on Mondays, “Harlan Coben’s Final Twist” will air at 10 p.m. Wednesdays (“Survivor” and “The Amazing Race”) and Fridays (“Sheriff’s Country,” “Fire Nation” and “Boston Blues”) will remain unchanged. Sunday will be followed by “60 Minutes,” new hits “Marshals” and “Tracker,” rebroadcast at 10 p.m. And, as usual, “48 Hours” will be rebroadcast on Saturdays.
Also on deck for midseason is newcomer “Einstein,” which has been in the works for a while and already has a few episodes in it.
Unscripted series such as “America’s Culinary Cup” and “The Road” are still airing. “The unscripted show is actually in a different timeline, so we’ll decide on that later,” Reisenbach said.
As part of the schedule release, Reisenbach revealed details of projects still in development, including “Flint,” starring and executive produced by Matt LeBlanc, and a medical-themed show set in the “Fire Nation/Sheriff Country” world.
CBS has announced that it will once again air the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 27th, simulcast with MTV. And for the first time ever, the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards will air on Saturday, November 14th on both CBS and Nick.
Additionally, “The Price Is Right” will air its first live event, “The Price Is Right Live” Christmas Special, in December. Also returning is “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash” on December 31st and the Golden Globe Awards, once again hosted by Nikki Glazer, on Sunday, January 10th at 8pm ET.
The new show will fill shelf space vacated by the recently canceled up-and-coming comedy “DMV” and up-and-coming drama “Watson.” The long-running comedy “The Neighborhood” will also end with this final season.
“When it comes to DMV and Watson, we love both programs,” Reisenbach said. “They were fun to work with. Morris Chestnut may be one of the greatest No. 1s I’ve ever worked with. But the bar is high at CBS. We have to add up all the numbers we looked at and make tough decisions to make room for new shows.”
Returning series include newcomer hits “Boston Blue” and “Sheriff Country,” both of which were quickly renewed for a second season by CBS in December. In January, The Eye renewed most of its shows: Trackers (renewed for season 4), Georgie and Mandy’s First Wedding (renewed for season 3), Matlock (renewed for season 3), Elsbeth (renewed for season 4), Fire Nation (renewed for season 5), NCIS (renewed for season 24), “NCIS: Origins” (renewed for Season 3), “NCIS: Sydney” (Renewed for Season 4), “Survivor” (Renewed for Season 51), “The Amazing Race” (Renewed for Season 39). (Ghost had already been renewed for a sixth season the previous year.) As part of the schedule announcement, it was also revealed that Harlan Coben’s Final Twist would be returning for a second season.
Just recently, CBS abruptly renewed Taylor Sheridan’s new drama The Marshalls, set in the world of Yellowstone, for a second season. The show’s March 1 premiere drew 20.6 million viewers in seven days across multiple platforms (including CBS and Paramount+), making it the most-watched broadcast original series premiere without an NFL lead-in since 2000, according to CBS. In March, a second season was ordered for CIA.
“Our long-term planning and development strategy has enabled us to announce our schedule sooner than in the past,” Reisenbach said. “We have a strong base of returning hits, many of which are still in the early stages of their lifecycle.”

“Eternally Yours” just received orders for the 2026-2027 broadcast season last week. Ghost, written and executive produced by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, stars Ed Weeks and Allegra Edwards as a pair of vampires whose once passionate romance turns into a 500-year-old marriage. They settle into a perpetual rut until their daughter’s (Helen J. Shen) enthusiastic human boyfriend (Jalen Lewison) unexpectedly enters their lives and forces. They must face whether their love can last forever, or whether eternity is a life sentence.”
On the drama front, CBS has already decided on two new series to pick up in the fall of 2026 several months ago. In October, the I Network greenlit Robert and Michelle King’s Silicon Valley legal drama Cupertino, starring Mike Colter, Rachel Keller, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Ella Stiller, Busy Philipps and Nick Dodani. The logline says the show is “a David vs. Goliath courtroom drama set in the heart of Silicon Valley that follows a lawyer (Colter) who is swindled out of stock options by his former employer, a tech startup. Refusing to do so, he teams up with another recently fired lawyer (Keller) to represent those exploited by the tech elite and help them fight back in a high-stakes battle against Goliath, who rules Silicon Valley.
And going back even further, the new drama Einstein starring Criminal Minds alumnus Matthew Gray Gubler was originally scheduled to air during the 2025-2026 season, but was pushed back to the 2026-2027 TV season in April due to limited shelf space on The Eye. (The project has been in the works for some time, and was first ordered to test run in August 2024.) The show is currently in midseason.
Based on the German format, “Einstein” is a drama about Albert Einstein’s bright but directionless great-grandson, who works comfortably as a tenured professor until he runs afoul of the law and ends up helping local police detectives solve cases. Gubler plays Louis Einstein, whose talent for helping solve murders may become his life’s purpose, and plays Veronica “Roni” Paris, a sharp and disciplined detective with the New Jersey State Police, alongside Rosa Salazar. Einstein is executive produced by Andy Breckman, Tariq Jalil, Rose Hughes, Rodrigo Herrera Ibargengoitia, Laura Beetz and director Randy Ziske.

George Cheeks, Paramount’s head of television media, shared his outlook for the network at the beginning of the CBS press conference, saying: “We’re developing year-round rather than a traditional pilot calendar, and that’s working well for us.” “This season we continue to expand our major franchises, launching “Marshalls,” “CIA,” “Sheriff Country,” and “Boston Blue.” Original concepts like “Tracker” continue to dominate, and next season we plan to introduce several new original concepts such as “Cupertino” and “Eternally Yours.” So for us, the green light or renewal decision starts with one question. Will the series air on CBS and target CBS’ core older audience and find an unduplicated younger audience on Paramount+? Well, for the past few seasons, we’ve launched a hit show that does just that, virtually every night. All of this adds up to a schedule designed to launch new series and grow viewership. ”
