Bandai Namco Filmworks has released a new trailer for the second chapter of the Hathaway movie trilogy, “Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash: The Magic of the Nymph Circe,” ahead of its US release on May 15th.
The film has already performed well in Japan, with box office revenue of 2.6 billion yen ($16.3 million), surpassing the 2.2 billion yen ($14 million) of its predecessor, Mobile Suit Gundam: Flash of Hathaway, when the first film was released. Directed by Hidemitsu Murase and produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks’ Sunrise Animation Studio, the sequel sees Kensho Ono reprise his role as protagonist Hathaway Noah in the Japanese version, with Caleb Yen leading the English dubbing cast.
The newly released footage leans into large-scale mobile suit combat as the story follows Hathaway, leader of the Mufti anti-Commonwealth resistance group, as he rallies to attack the Adelaide Congress. Set in UC 0105 12 years after the events of Char’s Rebellion, the story also tracks the efforts of the Earth Federation Forces to dismantle MAFTY, complicated by the arrival of the mysterious Gigi Andalusia, whose extraordinary abilities trigger something in Hathaway.
Composer Hiroyuki Sawano is in charge of the music. The opening theme is “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses, SZA’s “Snooze” is included in the end credits, and the insert songs are performed by Yohei Kawakami and Senarin of Alexandros. The script was written by Yasuyuki Muto based on the original idea by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Hajime Yatate.
“The Magic of Nymph Circe” is the second of three Hathaway films scheduled to be released in theaters in the long-running “Mobile Suit Gundam” series.
