The company, which made its name on TV shows like “Mad Men,” “The Walking Dead,” “Hell on Wheels” and “Breaking Bad,” is breaking away from some of its old-school names.
AMC Networks will drop the bottom half of its name and rename itself AMC Global Media, reflecting the company’s expanded focus on streaming media and international operations. The company serves subscribers in more than 100 countries and territories around the world, with offices in Iberia, Central Europe, the United Kingdom, and Latin America.
The company announced the move Wednesday in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
“Our new name reflects the continued transformation of our business into a global media and studio-driven company, with streaming as our primary source of domestic revenue,” CEO Christine Dolan said in a statement. “AMC Global Media produces and curates high-quality content and delivers it to audiences around the world through a variety of platforms and partnerships.”
AMC’s title change comes as the company’s best-known business, the entertainment-focused cable network, faces declining subscribers and advertising revenue as consumers shift to streaming options en masse. AMC announced in February that its advertising revenue in 2025 will fall 15% to $477 million, and distribution revenue will decline 13% to $588 million. However, revenue from streaming increased 12% to $677 million. This is primarily due to price increases across the service, a sign that subscribers are willing to pay more for what they get at broadband outlets, including AMC+.
AMC is not the only media company seeking closer collaboration with all forms of distribution. A+E Global Media was named as such by dropping “Networks” from its name last March, after decades of being most commonly associated with cable networks such as Lifetime, History and A&E.
AMC Global Media is focused on launching “The Audacity,” a new drama set in Silicon Valley. Other new series include “The Terror: Devil in Silver” scheduled for AMC+ and “You’re Killing Me,” a series starring Brooke Shields that will air on Acorn TV. The third season of “Vampire Lestat” begins in June.
