Kendra Duggar told her husband Joseph Duggar that her family is “disappointed” in him after he was arrested on child sex abuse charges.
Joseph is currently in jail, charged with lewd acts with a victim under 12 years of age and lewd acts with a person over 18 years of age.
In a jailhouse phone call last Thursday between Kendra and Joseph, who is accused of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl, she said she still loved him despite her family’s “disappointment.”
“Even if you’re disappointed, just know that everyone loves you,” Kendra said in a phone call obtained by TMZ.
Joseph replied, “I understand your disappointment.”
He also said he “absolutely” feels the love of his family.
“I’m not upset or anything like that,” he told her.
Kendra, 27, looked upbeat despite the current situation, saying she has to take everything one day at a time.
Joseph agreed and replied, “Yes, that is what we must do.”
The father-of-four appeared in court for the first time on Tuesday, with his lawyer asking to be treated “fairly” given the former Counting On star’s reality TV past.
“Regardless of his position in the television industry, he seeks to be treated fairly like anyone else,” Joseph’s attorney said at his arraignment in Bay County, Florida.
Joseph’s bail was set at $600,000 and he entered a written plea of not guilty.
Page Six exclusively obtained his mugshot after he was extradited from Arkansas to a Florida prison on molestation charges on Tuesday.
Joseph grinned in his mugshot, showing off his messy hair. He was booked at 7:32 a.m.
Page Six also exclusively revealed last week that the only person who visited him was his lawyer while he was being held in an Arkansas prison.
According to call records obtained by Page Six, Joseph called Kendra’s phone number daily, sometimes twice a day. He also called a management consultant, but the phone went unanswered.
Kendra and Joseph were married in September 2017.
