Peppa Pig fans are likely to scream with joy as the long-running pig series gets a new showrunner.
The Adventures of Paddington screenwriter Adam Redfern has signed a deal (or perhaps I should say “agreed”) with Hasbro to oversee the entire creative direction of the animated series, now in its 30th year, including content, storytelling, character development and overall vision.
Mr Redfern has more than 20 years’ experience in children’s television, having worked on the aforementioned Paddington series, as well as the BBC’s Go Jetters and Moonbug’s Oddbods.
“‘Peppa Pig’ is one of those rare preschool establishments that has become a true fixture of modern family culture, something I saw firsthand at home. So stepping into this role is both exciting professionally and personally meaningful,” Redfern told Variety.
“The opportunity ahead is to continue to thoughtfully evolve the program while preserving the simple, character-driven storytelling that has driven its global success. Together with our writers, directors and partners, we are focused on delivering stories that reflect the everyday experiences of today’s preschoolers, while retaining the humor and emotional authenticity that our fans have come to expect. I’m thrilled to be joining the team and, just like Peppa, I’m ready to dive straight into a muddy puddle!”
The Peppa Pig preschool series was first released in 2004 and has since expanded to include movies, merchandise, and even theme park experiences around the world. Last year, Peppa’s family welcomed younger sister Evie and recently dealt with younger brother George’s hearing diagnosis.
“‘Peppa Pig’ has a strong, distinct identity that has guided the franchise for over 20 years,” said Tamara Grienrod, Hasbro’s SVP of Action, Preschool and Fashion. “Adam joins at a time when the brand’s creative momentum is strong. His experience and leadership will help us move the franchise forward with care and purpose as we continue to shape the story for a new generation of preschoolers and parents.”
