Ryan Reynolds coaxed a theatergoer into dropping $25,000 on a hat worn by Jonathan Groff in the Broadway show “Just in Time.”
During the “Glee” alum’s final Broadway performance as Bobby Darin on Sunday, audience members had the opportunity to bid on his autographed hat, with proceeds going to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Bidding started at $5,000 and quickly rose to $15,000, according to a video shared on social media.
The quick bid left the “Deadpool” star shocked as he stared at the audience betting on him.
He was seen mouthing “Wow” before bidding $20,000.
“I love you, Ryan,” a fan can be heard replying, before the MC quickly tells him, “You know I want more, right, 21?”
When the 49-year-old actor appeared to protest, she told him, “If you want to do a big movie, you can quit now. It’s for charity, honey!”
Reynolds settled it once and for all, yelling “25!”
After the bidding ended, Groff, 41, personally handed the hat to Reynolds to express his gratitude.
Reynolds tried to put a hat on her daughter’s head, but she quickly brushed it off, and the two actors hugged and chatted.
The Proposal star was joined by his wife Blake Lively and daughters James, 11, Ines, 9, and Betty, 6, for the special Broadway night. Her 3-year-old son, Orrin, apparently did not participate in the outing.
The Gossip Girl actress, 38, sat behind Reynolds and held her youngest child, Betty, close to her. Meanwhile, Reynolds was sitting between James and Ines.
This isn’t the first time a big star has donated to a Broadway cause.
In 2022, Nicole Kidman donated $100,000 to Broadway Cares and received Hugh Jackman’s “The Music Man” hat.
