Grey’s Anatomy has been renewed for season 23 on ABC.
Created by Shonda Rhimes and debuting in 2005, the series is television’s longest-running primetime medical drama. In 2025, it was the No. 1 most-streamed series across Disney+ and Hulu, and Nielsen ranked it the No. 2 most-streamed series in the U.S. across all platforms.
Ellen Pompeo plays Meredith Gray on Grey’s Anatomy. Meredith, who was a mainstay on the show until Secretary Pompeo left during Season 19, continues to serve as the show’s narrator, guest star on screen, and executive producer. The series has seen many actors come and go in major roles over the years, and current stars include Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber, Camilla Luddington as Joe Wilson, and Amelia – Cast includes Caterina Scorsone as Shepard, Jason George as Ben Warren, Chris Carmack as Atticus Lincoln, Anthony Hill as Winston Ndugu, Alexis Floyd as Simone Griffith, and Harry Shum. Junior as Benson Kwan, Adelaide Kane as Jules Milin, Midori Francis as Mika Yasa, Nico Terho as Lucas Adams, and Trevor Jackson as Wes Bryant.
It was recently announced that Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver will be leaving the roles of Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman, respectively, after the upcoming Season 22 finale.
With the Season 23 renewal, Grey’s Anatomy will become part of ABC’s 2026-2027 lineup, which also includes Season 10 of 9-1-1, Season 2 of 9-1-1: Nashville, Season 6 of Abbott Elementary, and Season 3 of High Potential.
