Princess Beatrice is reportedly considering moving to the United States following the scandalous arrest of her father, former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, over his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
Beatrice is “mortified” by the Epstein scandal and “desperate to bring things under control” amid the public spotlight on her family, sources told the Daily Mail in a report published Saturday.
She is considering her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi’s real estate business, a move made more likely given the “precedent” set by other members of the family who also left the country.
“His sister Eugenie lived abroad for many years, and that set a precedent,” the source said, adding that the move “would have been unthinkable a few years ago, but times have changed dramatically.”
“Moving abroad, perhaps to the United States, would be a fresh start for Beatrice and Ed, and could jump-start their marriage and get them back on track.”
The couple are said to feel that remaining in the UK would be “sitting ducks” as “the issues with Andrew and Sarah[Ferguson]will not go away”.
“The police investigation will continue for several months and if Andrew is indicted there will be a trial, but that’s further attention they can ignore,” the source said.
“It would seem natural for them to move to the United States. Ed spends a lot of time in the United States, so it’s easy to imagine them moving there.”
And that possibility is growing with the help of his cousin Prince Harry, who moved to the United States with his wife Meghan Markle after stepping down as a member of the royal family.
“Both sisters have been in contact with their cousin Prince Harry, who has been giving them advice and there has been talk of them staying in California for a while,” a source said.
Mr Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on his 66th birthday in February on suspicion of misconduct in office for allegedly forwarding confidential trade documents to Mr Epstein.
If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to life in prison.
According to a source, the news of the arrest was “a very hard blow for the sisters, especially Beatrice, because she needed to be with Ed and he was working in the United States to boost his real estate business trade.”
This moment caused great damage to her marriage. “She was really upset because she needed a shoulder to cry on and he wasn’t there for her, but they are really trying to make things work.”
“They know how things look, but they want to try it out,” the source added.
Kensington Palace did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
