Christopher M. Anthony’s directorial debut “Heavyweight,” starring Jordan Bolger, Nicholas Pinnock, and Jason Isaacs, will be released in the United States.
The British boxing drama will have a limited theatrical release, as well as a VOD release in the US starting July 21st, while it will hit VOD platforms in the UK on March 30th.
Distributed by High Flyers Films in the UK and Tri-Coast in the US, the film is produced by Blackwater Pictures and Silver Milk Productions, with producers Kevin Harvey, Tiernan Hamby, Antoine Dixon-Bellot, Simon Lewis Marriott, Oliver Slinger and Pinnock. It premiered as the opening film at the 2025 Raindance Film Festival and earned BAFTA and BIFA qualification.
“Heavyweight,” directed by Nigerian-Lebanese filmmaker Anthony, navigates the turbulent world of professional boxing, focusing on the mental battles that accompany physical prowess. Producers describe the film as “more than just a sports drama,” offering “an insightful look at the self-doubt, determination, and psychological warfare that shape the careers of elite athletes.”
The story follows boxing wild-card candidate “Diamond” Derek Douglas, who unexpectedly finds himself in the spotlight just days before a high-stakes title fight. Battling his own insecurities and the difficult dynamics within his support team, “Heavyweight” delves deep into the undercurrents of elite competition and the psychological grit required to survive at the top.
Anthony’s feature directorial debut builds on his experience working on major works such as Harry Potter, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Jungle Book. Bolger (Peaky Blinders, The Woman King), Pinnock (For Life, Hedda), and Isaacs (Harry Potter, The White Lotus) also star, as well as Ossie Ikil (Black Mirror, In the Heart of the Sea) and Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil, The Meg 2).
Behind the camera is British talent, including BAFTA-winning cinematographer Chas Appetit (The Jungle), production designer Amy Meek (Boiling Point) and costume designer Lauren Miller (Supercell, Top Boy).
