Maddie Ziegler is trying to end her dance rivalry with Tate McRae and their current standing.
Ziegler appeared on “Therapas with Jake Shane” on Wednesday and recalled competing against McRae in a dance contest when she was just 9 years old. The “Dance Moms” alum said the Canadian pop star beat her at the Dance Awards, but it was “the biggest award she could have won.”
Ziegler, now 23, admitted that as a child, he was “a competitive loser.”
“I think I would have been really upset if I didn’t win,” she said. “And that’s what I was taught, you know?”
They then met again in 2016 when McRae competed on “So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation” and Ziegler served as a judge.
“It was so weird,” Ziegler commented.
The “Chandelier” music video star said they weren’t allowed to be friends at the time because she was a judge and McRae was a contestant, but they were in a relationship after the show ended.
McRae ultimately finished third in the competition.
“I feel like when we were 16 or 17, we got back together and started hanging out in L.A.,” Ziegler said. “And I love her so much, and she’s killing it.”
McRae, 22, famously competed on the same circuit as the girls from Dance Moms, who were once coached by dance instructor and choreographer Abby Lee Miller.
The “Sports Car” singer defeated Ziegler to win the title of Junior Best Female Dancer at the 2015 Dance Awards, footage of which later resurfaced on TikTok and went viral.
Earlier this month, Miller revealed on Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast that McRae nuzzled her when they met at a Los Angeles hotspot.
“I don’t know her that well, but I know her well enough to say ‘hello,'” said a 60-year-old dance coach. “I just saw her having dinner at Craig’s a few weeks ago.”
“She didn’t even look at me,” she added. “She held her nose up.”
Still, Miller praised McRae for incorporating some impressive dance moves during her performance.
“I think it’s great that she can put her feet up (while singing),” Miller said. “It shows you have to do everything. You have to be a triple threat – she’ll probably be the next one to act.”
