CNN Original Series has set a May 9 premiere date for “K-Everything,” a four-part documentary series hosted and executive produced by Tony Award-nominated actor, director, producer and social activist Daniel Dae Kim.
The series launches on CNN International with new episodes every Saturday. U.S. viewers who subscribe to CNN streaming will be able to watch on-demand through the CNN app starting the same day.
Each of the four episodes focuses on a pillar of South Korea’s cultural export boom. In Seoul, Kim spoke with key figures in the K-pop world to find out how the industry has cultivated an extraordinarily passionate international following. He then turned his attention to South Korean screen content, visiting drama sets and visual effects facilities, charting the medium’s remarkable journey from strict state censorship to global streaming domination to Academy Award recognition. Set against the backdrop of the PyeongChang Kimchi Festival, the story examines how Korean cuisine has established itself in food culture around the world, from market stalls to the upper echelons of high-end restaurants. The final installment examines the science and knowledge behind South Korea’s beauty industry and how the country has come to set the challenge for cosmetics consumers around the world.
“It’s a personal and professional pleasure to be able to introduce Korea through our series ‘K-Everything,'” said Kim. “There has never been more interest in this country’s people and culture, so it feels like the perfect time to explore what drives its success. Whether you’re already a Korean expert or a newcomer, I hope you’ll gain a unique and fresh perspective on this place that means so much to me.”
Amy Entelis, CNN Worldwide’s executive vice president of talent and content development, said the series reflects the network’s commitment to globally focused, character-driven programming. “Daniel takes viewers on a dynamic, character-driven journey, exploring how South Korea’s creative industries have dramatically changed music, film, food and beauty around the world,” she said.
“K-Everything” represents the first collaboration between CNN’s Originals division and its global production team based in Asia Pacific. Joining Kim as executive producers are Entelis, Elana Lee, Jon Jensen, Katie Hinman and Ryan Smith of the CNN Original Series.
Kim is repped by UTA, Linden Entertainment, ID, and Gang Tire.
