Property Masters were eligible for active voting or associate membership within the Television Academy.
The Academy has created a new Property Master subgroup within the Directors Peer Group for individuals who have advanced the art of storytelling through their skills as Property Masters.
The Academy’s membership committee, chaired by Joe DiSante, has worked closely with the Property Masters Guild to develop standards for including community members who have creative influence on the work.
DiSante said: “Property Masters are industry experts who make a significant contribution to television production, and we are thrilled to welcome them to the Television Academy.”
The Television Academy is comprised of 31 peer groups, each representing a specific area of expertise in the television industry.
According to the new rules, applicants must meet the requirements of the new subgroup to be considered for membership. Conditions include: Earn screen credits as a Real Estate Master or Assistant Real Estate Master and be employed for at least two of the past four years. Credit for at least 15 episodes of a scripted drama, comedy, or sketch series. or five feature-length program credits, defined as a television movie or special that airs over one and a half hours in length. Property masters working on games, talk, reality, and variety produced for television must include additional information, including a summary of their responsibilities, and demonstrate significant creative contribution to the show.
Earlier this year, the Television Academy also introduced new rules, including new names for the TV movie category. This included what would henceforth be known as the “great movie.” The organization also revealed its AI guidelines, stating that it “reserves the right to inquire about the use of AI in submissions. Our recognition remains centered on human storytelling, regardless of the tools used to bring stories to life.”
The Academy has made changes to the Short Film Format, Sound Mixing and Music categories, as well as expanded eligibility in the Casting, Costume and Lighting, Camera and Technical Art categories.
