Wuthering Heights is back.
Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Emily Bronte’s classic novel will be available for purchase or rental digitally for the first time on March 31st, following a theatrical release that grossed more than $230 million worldwide. A physical release on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD will follow on May 5th.
Written, directed and produced by the Oscar-winning and BAFTA-winning filmmaker, this romantic drama stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as Cathy and Heathcliff. The film also stars Hong Chau, Shahzad Latif, Alison Oliver, Martin Clunes, and Ewan Mitchell.
This digital release will be available on major platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home, and the title will continue to be available in both high-definition and standard-definition formats.
The home edition will include a series of bonus features, including “Threads of Desire,” a behind-the-scenes look at costume designer Jacqueline Durand’s work on the film’s Gothic aesthetic, and “The Legacy of Love and Madness,” in which Fennell discusses her approach to reimagining Bronte’s story. Another featurette, “Building a Fever Dream,” explores the film’s production design and overall visual language, and includes a full-length commentary by Fennell.
“Literary purists may object,” wrote Varity film critic Peter DeBrugge in a review, “but Fennell seizes upon a passion that was always present in the material but never made explicit, amplifying something that for years had little reward: physical desire, of course, but also the psychological games in which power shifts between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff.”
The film’s digital release followed its theatrical release in February, dominating the global box office with an $82 million opening.
You can rent or purchase Wuthering Heights from March 31st.
