Great news! Marvel TV series Wonder Man has been renewed for a second season on Disney+.
The news comes about two months after the series launched, with eight episodes of the first season debuting on the streamer on January 27th. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley appeared in the series as Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery, respectively. The season 1 cast also includes X Mayo, Demetrius Grosse, Zlatko Buric, Ariane Moayed, and Olivia Thirlby.
This series was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest. Guest will return as showrunner and executive producer, and Cretton will return as director and executive producer.
The official logline for season 1 reads: “Aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams (Abdul-Mateen) is struggling to get his career back on track. During a chance encounter with actor Trevor Slattery (Kingsley), who is probably up for a big role, Simon learns that legendary director von Kovac (Zlatko Buric) is remaking the superhero film Wonder Man.” The actor tenaciously pursues a life-changing role in this film that gives audiences a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry. ”
“Wonder Man” received critical acclaim upon its premiere, with the first season earning a 91% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Alison Herman wrote in her review for Variety that “Abdul-Mateen and Kingsley make their characters equally absurd and romantic, driven by motives more intimate and personal than saving the world.”
This is one of the few times a Marvel Cinematic Universe live-action series returns for a second season. Disney+ has previously aired limited series such as “WandaVision,” “Hawkeye,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” and “Moon Knight.” Loki, starring Tom Hiddleston, aired for two seasons, and WandaVision spinoff Vision Quest is currently in production. Disney+ will also rebroadcast the Marvel and Netflix series “Daredevil” in March 2025 under the title “Daredevil: Born Again,” and the show’s second season will debut on March 24.
