Searchlight Pictures has released the trailer for Wild Horse Nine, the latest film from Oscar winner Martin McDonagh. The filmmakers will reunite after leading Sam Rockwell to a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
The official logline, which has been kept strictly secret until now, reads: “On the eve of the 1973 Chilean coup, CIA officers Chris and Lee are dispatched from Santiago to Easter Island by director MJ. Inside the island’s iconic statue, Chris’ newfound bond with two rebellious students threatens to bring everyone’s faith to this remote island paradise, as the longtime partners grapple with a dark past and a present conspiracy.” ”
John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell play CIA agents Chris and Lee, respectively, and Steve Buscemi plays the CIA director. Other cast members include Mariana Di Girolamo, Irene Salas, Tom Waits, and Parker Posey.
“Wild Horse Nine” reunites McDonagh with Searchlight, Blueprint Pictures and Film4 following his 2022 dark comedy “The Banshees of Inisheline.” The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.
“Wild Horse Nine” was originally announced at AFM 2021, and Searchlight first covered the project. At the time, Christopher Walken and Oscar Isaac were scheduled to co-star with Rockwell, but they later dropped out of the project. Taylor Friedman, senior vice president of production, and Peter Spencer, director of development and production, are overseeing the project for Searchlight. They will report to Katie Goodson-Thomas and DanTram Nguyen, directors of production and development.
McDonagh serves as writer, director, and producer along with Graham Broadbent, Pete Chernin, and Anita Overland.
“Wild Horses Nine” will be released in theaters on November 6th. Check out the trailer below.
