Among numerous competitions, Amy Madigan won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2026 Oscars. The actress won the award for her performance in Weapons. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her husband and fellow actor Ed Harris.
At the 2026 Oscars ceremony taking place tonight, the Best Supporting Actress category was one of the most controversial of the night. Three of the nominees, including Amy Madigan, Wunmi Mosaku, Teyana Taylor, Inga Ebsdotter Lilleas and Elle Fanning, had already won previous Oscar awards. Taylor won a Golden Globe Award for her performance in “One Battle After Another.” Mosaku took home BAFTA for Sinners. And Madigan won for Best Actor in the Weapons category. But in the end, it was Madigan who won over the majority of Oscar voters, taking the stage to thunderous applause as she accepted the statuette at tonight’s gala.
“This is amazing!” the actress declared, laughing to the crowd. She then thanked the other nominees and her husband, Ed Harris, to whom she has been married since 1983. (Harris is also an Academy Award-nominated actor known for his roles in Apollo 13, The Truman Show, Pollock, The Hours and Westworld). “None of this would mean anything without him by my side,” Madigan said.
Tonight’s Best Supporting Actress award is Madigan’s first win, but only her second nomination in this category. She was previously nominated for her supporting role in the 1985 film Twice in a Lifetime.

“This is great. People keep asking me in the press, it’s been 40 years, and, um, what’s different this time? What’s different is that I have this little doll!”
So…I mean, last night, as I was taking a shower, shaving my legs, I was thinking of something to say. And–I’m wearing pants, so I don’t have to worry about that. sorry. And, you know, we were admonished to say, “Stop saying all these names, because no one knows who the hell these people are,” and you’re not rattling them off. They are people who mean something to you. You couldn’t be here without them.
First and foremost, I have to thank screenwriter and director Zach Creger. He just wrote the dream part and let me grab it by the throat. And, uh, there was a ball. I would like to thank producer Miri (Yun) who was on set the entire time. And of course, Warner Bros. and New Line and Pam (Abidi) and Mike (De Luca), but you know, it’s all thanks to the people who helped me get here… You know, I’m a little confused, you know what I mean?
I would also like to pay tribute to Elle (Fanning), Inga (Yvesdotter Lileas), Wunmi (Mosaku) and Teyana (Taylor). Oh my legs are shaking. Because when I was making all of the ‘Weapons’ stuff, I was kind of traveling by myself, and the people from ‘One Battle (After Another)’ and the people from ‘Sinners’ and all these other movies hugged me and said, ‘Yeah, come on over and let us know about you so you can get to know us.’ So I’m grateful to them. But most of all I would like to thank my beautiful daughter Lily and her husband Sean. And of course, all the dogs. But most importantly, my beloved Ed (Harris), who will be with me forever. And it’s been such a long time, and if he wasn’t by my side, this wouldn’t mean anything. Well then, thank you very much. ”
