Harry Styles finally responded to the widespread criticism leveled at him as queerbaiting in his opening monologue on Saturday Night Live.
He began his segment by reminiscing about the last time he hosted the show in 2019 and when he completed his latest tour in 2023. “At the time, people seemed to be paying a lot of attention to the clothes I was wearing, and it was what I would call queerbaiting,” he said. “And some people have accused me, but have you ever considered that maybe you don’t know everything about me, Dad?”
He talked about other hobbies he indulges in during his time off, such as running, and ended by talking about his new album, “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.”
“Some people ask me where I got that title from,” he joked, adding that he enthusiastically pronounced the album name in an exaggerated Italian accent, including a prompt on ChatGPT that read, “Tell me the most Italian phrase ever.”
“I mean, sometimes kissing is great,” he continued. “If you’re really good at it and you’re a good person.” At this point, several female cast members, including Chloe Fineman and Sarah Squirm, made advances, all of which he denied.
When cast member Ben Marshall approached him, he cheekily said: “Or if your ass is tight!” And I went full force into the smooch. “That’s queerbaiting!”
This will be the second time the Grammy-winning pop star has co-starred in the NBC sketch comedy series. He last took the helm of Studio 8H in November 2019 and has previously appeared as a musical guest with One Direction three times and once solo.
This time, Styles will be singing songs from his new album, “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.” which was released last week.
Styles also appeared on Ryan Gosling’s show last weekend.
